The 4th Next Generation’s Roundtable in TOKYO (2018-2019)

2019年2月12日（火）第4回目の次世代ラウンドテーブル（NGRT）が六本木ヒルズクラブで開催された。今回はアメリカ・カナダ大学連合日本研究センター所長のブルース・バートン氏をお招きし、「言語」をテーマにディスカッションを行った。日本人は全員英語を学ぶべきか、英語話者は他言語を習得すべきか、また翻訳機の発達によって他言語習得の重要性が下がるか、などを議論した。約30人の参加者は4つのテーブルに分かれ、活発な意見交換が行われた。

 

 

4th Next Generation’s Roundtable in TOKYO was held at Roppongi Hill Club on 12th February.

In this time, AJS invited Mr. Bruce Batten who is Resident Director of The Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies (IUC). Participants talked about following themes such as “should all Japanese learn English?”, “should native English speakers study other languages?” and “will future advances in machine translation make it less necessary to study foreign languages?”. About 30 participants discussed actively.
