AJSインターン企画『外交官と話そう！』
2020年3月10日(火)、日米協会事務局にて、外務省北米局北米第一課の川溿晃平氏をゲストにお迎えし、学生インターンに向けてお話頂いた。参加したインターンらは「外交官になったらどのような課題に取り組みたいか」、「外交官に必要だと思う資質」についてそれぞれ事前に考えてきた意見を発表した。自身の経験に基づく課題設定や、学生ならではの視点からのアプローチも見られ、活発な意見交換が行われた。その後、同じ質問を川溿様にお伺いしたところ、「国への責任感や解決策を切り開く力、さらには人としての魅力に磨きをかけることも大事な資質である」とのお話を頂いた。講演後の質疑応答の時間には、入省の志望動機や具体的な業務内容、今後のビジョン等たくさんの質問に対し、一つずつ丁寧に答えて頂き、大変有意義な時間となった。

On March 10th, we welcomed Mr. Kohei Kawabata, diplomat of the North American Affairs Bureau, to the AJS office and had him give insight on his job towards the student interns. The AJS interns who participated prepared a short presentation beforehand on the theme, “ What issues would you focus on if you were a diplomat, and what are the ideal qualities you believe that are necessary for being a successful diplomat.” Many presented ideas that were based on their own experience and also gave profound ways as to how they could possibly approach these issues. After everyone gave their presentations, Mr.Kawabata gave a talk on the same theme. He stressed that the sense of responsibility and the ability to put your solution into practice as well as having an appealing/likeable character were important. During the Q&A session that followed, Mr Kawabata answered many questions from the interns. Everyone was fascinated throughout the whole program and had a very fruitful time.
