任意イベント： Brexit体験記
2019年12月10日、日米協会オフィスにて岡本和夫専務理事が講演を行い、英下院総選挙とBrexitの見通しについて語った。まず、英国の特異な政治制度と各政党の動向について概説。そしてBrexitの背景となっている移民や貧富差の拡大など英国で顕在化してきた問題を概観し、総選挙とBrexitの実現可能性についての意見が披露された。8年に渡り地域代表会社に勤務された経験に基づいた見解は日本のメディアに紹介されないものも多く参加者の関心が大いに高められた。特に各政党の党首に対する英国民の好感度を通した分析は我々にとって新鮮なものであったことに加え、総選挙結果がほぼ予測通りとなったのも面白かった。 Brexitの見通しについて「離脱後の通称交渉は延長を繰り返しながらも暫定的に現状の状況がそのまま延引され、結局は形だけ離脱はするも実効的には現在とあまり変わらない“Name Only”となる可能性が極めて高い」という独自の見解が示されたが、これも意外に説得力があるようにも思われた。
On December 10th, Executive Director of AJS, Mr. Kazuo Okamoto, made a speech about the prospect of the political situation in the UK and Brexit at AJS office. Firstly Mr Okamoto overviewed the unique political system in the UK and the recent progress of relevant parties. Then, picking out some currently imminent issues, i.e. immigration and gap-widening society, the prospect of the general election and subsequent Brexit negotiation were mentioned. The insight specially acquired through his eight years’ tenure seemed to have attracted the interest of the participants. The analysis on the recent political events including characters of major party leaders was so fresh and plausible as to foresee the results of the election almost perfectly. The unique opinion that the Brexit would only end in “name only”, extending the status quo even after relentless trade negotiations between the Ditch was eventually explained, which sounded yet convincing upon the almost exactly predicted results of the elevation.
