Why People of Ukraine do not like Moscow?

On 24 February, a shocking day when Russia started the assault on Ukraine, the Japan-America Society welcomed Ambassador Shigeki Sumi, former Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine, to speak on the topic ” Why People of Ukraine do not like Moscow?”. Ambassador Sumi, who is deeply acquainted with the history and current situation in Ukraine, gave a series of detailed explanations on the historical relations between Ukraine and Russia, the reasons for Ukraine’s desire to join the EU and NATO, and the reasons for Russia’s current obsession with Ukraine. It was a precious opportunity for us to hear his in-depth and meticulous analysis and to gain knowledge which we could not get anywhere else in really a timely manner.
