The Monthly Program: The new Korean government and the outlook for the political situation on the Korean Peninsula.

On March 29th, the AJS invited Professor Junya Nishino of Keio University to give a comprehensive analysis of the new government in the ROK under the theme ‘The inauguration of the new South Korean Government and prospects for the situation on the Korean Peninsula’. Prof. Nishino started to explain on the current political and social background of the election, the analysis of the election and the inherent difficulty of the government, followed by a dialogue with President Fujisaki, in which the possible policies including the relations with Japan and South Korea, especially historical issues, the diplomacy with the neighboring countries and the defense policy. It was a valuable experience for the members to gain a new understanding of the various problems facing the ROK and to consider the various global issues from the ROK’s perspective.
