Online session for student Members: “Job Roundtable” With Sadaaki Numata, former Ambassador to Canada

On Friday, January 21, the America-Japan Society invited Mr. Sadaaki Numata, former Japanese Ambassador to Canada, as our guest speaker and held an online session for the student members of the America-Japan Society on the theme of “Job Roundtable”.

Amb. Numata started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later served as Press Secretary, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Pakistan, Ambassador in charge of Okinawa Affairs, and so on. During his career as a diplomat, he served as an English interpreter for Prime Ministers Tanaka, Miki, Fukuda, Ohira, Suzuki and weaved diplomatic history between the U.S. and Japan. He is now retired and active as the President of the English-Speaking Union of Japan. Through his many years of experience as a diplomat, he taught us what we need to know in communication and the key points of learning English. Participants actively asked questions about the attitude toward career choice and his experiences at the University of Oxford. Amb. Numata answered them in detail. It was a valuable opportunity for the student members to gain important guidelines for their future lives from a person who led Japanese diplomacy.
