International Symposium Registration link
The AJS has held international symposiums alternately every other year for a quarter of a century since 1995, promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries. While Kumamoto event in 2018 and Philadelphia event (online) in 2020 were held nearby, Kyoto event will be held this year with the following outline.
Taking into consideration the recent international situation, the basic theme of this conference will be “Security in the Indo-Pacific for Japan and the United States.” In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February this year, China, which has strengthened its expansion into the Pacific Ocean and strengthened hegemonic moves against the backdrop of its enormous economic power, and North Korea, which has accelerated its nuclear and missile development In contrast, how should Japan, the United States, South Korea, Australia, India, and ASEAN deal with Taiwan’s contingencies while adhering to principles such as freedom, the rule of law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity? We will discuss these imminent geopolitical issues from various perspectives, including international politics, diplomacy and security, industrial economy, and technology.

-The keynote speech by U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel has been cancelled, and he will participate via video message.
-Minister of State for Digital Economy Taro Kono will participate via video message.
